VOILA French Language Centre co-operates with a reputable CLA (Centre de Linguistique Appliquée- Centre of Applied Linguistics) at the University at Franche-Comté in Besançon. and helps to organise all formalities needed to study French there.

ABOUT CLA

Centre of Applied Linguistics in Besançon was founded in 1958 and is one of the first such places in France. It specialises in teaching languages, teacher education, organises courses for foreigners and runs its own scientific research. Today CLA is a part of Franche-Comté University and has over 3000 students from the whole world a year. .

About Besançon

Besançon is a middle sized town - the capital of Franche-Comté region, situated on the border with Swiss, at the foot of French Jura. The city centre with no car traffic is surrounded by Doubs river which creates a bend called "boucle". There are mainly old tenement houses, restaurants and little shops there. The main street - 'Grande Rue' leads to the citadel - the most popular monument in the region.

You can also visit numerous museums or Arc-et Senans - royal saline which is included in the UNESCO world heritage list.

Wine lovers may visit the neighbouring Arbois on the regional wine day to try excellent Vin Jaune or Vin de Paille famous all over France.

Language courses for foreigners

The courses for foreigners at CLA are conducted by professional French teachers - FLE - specialising in teaching foreigners. Group classes will let you develop your vocabulary and help you improve your language skills. Free workshops on particular topics are organised as well.

What can you do after classes?

CLA is famous for organising numerous attractions for the students to let them practise what they have learnt in class. You do not need to worry what to do after classes then. They organise film shows, salsa courses, trips in the region, and once a month an international evening when you can present your country.

Students are handed the program of all additional attractions at the beginning of the course.

Why is it worth going?

Contact with native speakers of a foreign language is known to be a valuable form of learning. Going to courses abroad lets you "test" grammar and vocabulary you acquired during regular classes. This will also give you a chance to practise what you have learnt, e.g. buying a baguette or a train ticket.
CLA courses are for students from all over the world and you can find pen pals to write to in French after you come home. Students are lodged in the university campus or with French families. This offers a great chance of getting to know everyday life in France, cooking traditions or holiday customs.
